Lexile

What is a Lexile?

Lexile matches a student’s reading ability with the difficulty of a book. The STAR Assessment is administered throughout the year to measure the student’s growth. The assessment shows the student’s Lexile Measure and a Lexile Range. This range represents the boundaries between the easiest kind of reading for the student and the hardest level at which he or she can read successfully. A student’s Lexile measure is a tool for teachers to use in targeting reading material for students.

Students should be reading at these Lexile Levels by the end of the school year

First Grade – 325

Second Grade – 525

Third Grade – 650

Fourth Grade – 750

Fifth Grade - 850
